e Henry Paper 4 Sexual orientation The theme that we have been focusing on in class for the past two weeks is sexual orientation. Sexual orientation is more complex than just the gender a person is attracted to. Instead sexual orientation is on more of a spectrum. On one end of the spectrum a person can be solely heterosexual and on the opposite side a person can be completely homosexual. This also means that a person can be bisexual if they identify more in the middle of the spectrum. The spectrum allows for all individuals of all different sexualities to have a place on the spectrum. In the films Chasing Amy and XXY we see two individuals who are more fluid with their sexuality and do not identify with being solely homosexual or solely heterosexual. The movie Chasing Amy is about a woman named Alyssa. Alyssa faces many judgments from her friends when she tells them that she is now seeing a man. Alyssa’s friends who were all lesbians judged her for now dating a man. This is because they thought that Alyssa was a lesbian. Her friends were judging her because she was maybe becoming a bi sexual and not a lesbian like she thought she had been, â€Å"Biphobia, like homophobia, is prejudice based on negative stereotypes. It is often born of ignorance† (Diehl, Ochs p.385). Throughout the movie Alyssa had to explain her sexual past because of her sexual orientation. Do you remember your first concert? I mean really remember it, down to the smallest detail? My brother took me to my first ever concert, to see a band that I had never heard of. When I got home from school he threw me the City Paper, told me to read up, and asked if I would like to go see them. Hesitant as I always was, I did not initially want to go. He told me, â€Å"You’d like them. † So I went with him.Let’s get this straight; The Melvins are not a quality first-concert band. I don’t care how into loud music you are; a person needs time to adjust. As hard-core as you think that a band can be, The Melvins top that. Not mentioning the fact that they had two drummers, that first concert is to this day the loudest noise I have ever heard. I can listen to whatever bands I want and disregard the rest. No longer did I feel the need to have everyone like me. I could be me, and I could be happy being me. This didn’t happen over night, of course. It took a very long time to come to terms with the person I was to become, the person that I am today.When people say that you have to love yourself in order for others to love you, they’re not kidding. Why should anyone respect me if I can’t respect myself? I gained respect, not only from myself, but also from those surrounding me.That one concert changed so much about me, from my appearance, to my outlook on life, and I don’t even listen to The Melvins! They acted, should I say, as a â€Å"gateway band.† They took me away from listening to what I was told to listen to and closer to what I listen to now. I feel as though the music that I listen to now inspires me to do whatever it is that I need to do, whether it be getting my homework done, or making it through tougher challenges. To this day, I am overjoyed with my choice to go to that concert with my brother. If I ever need help with making a decision, I look for inspiration from the part of myself that first decided to go to that concert.

The third measurement of how effective an advertising campaign has been is the nature and types of income revenue that have resulted from that particular campaign. The change – increase or decrease – in the sales revenues prior to and after the advertising campaign will be a good indicator of the effectiveness of a particular advertising strategy or campaign. Promotion is essentially a two-way communication that deals directly with the consumer to enhance the marketing strategy and appeal to the consumers. There are nowadays a lot of promotional strategies which can be employed in addi tion to advertising to draw customers to a particular product or service. In addition to the promotional strategies there are also various ways in which these promotion strategies can be implemented, with the latest and the one that is now catching on being promotion through social media and other online contact. Some of the promotional strategies that can be employed include the use of contests with winners receiving various prizes. Such contests, especially those that encourage the purchase of a product or the use of a particular service are also quite effective in ensuring repeat customers and can encourage previously skeptical potential customers to try out a service or a good and if followed up with a clear and targeted advertising, can result in increasing the market pull of a product. Another promotional strategy that can be used is the offer of discounts and special prices to targeted members of the market in order to encourage them to either shift from a competing product o r make
